Carol McKay’s rational is not acceptable. Frankly, this is how an event is given a different subtext. The AP has many file photos that could have been used to show the demonstrators, maybe not at that specific time, but around it, and McKay could have used them. A picture of a cop petting a kitten will not drawn attention to the article, will give humanistic subtext to cops in the article, because you have just seen one caring for a kitten, not tossing tear gas and wearing riot gear as they were. There would be time for these pictures to be sent electronically over the internet, if not for the early edition on the street by 4 am, certainly by the late am edition.
